A Light-Infused, Legion of Honor Family Session

I recently had the honor of working with Dilip (a wildly talented beauty and fashion photographer) and Wendy (a beautifully talented painter) for this light-infused Family session at San Francisco’s stunning Legion of Honor.

I was so grateful for such a beautiful afternoon together! So many elements made these images so memorable for me. An image is rarely just a ‘picture’ to me. When photographing families, I often see and experience so many ‘layers’ from behind the lens.

I vividly remember a particular moment while working with Wendy and her daughter, feeling that brilliant California sunshine, and the calming breezes that swirled throughout the eucalyptus trees standing along the periphery of the museum. I could feel the calming presence of this beautiful mother with her young daughter in her arms and she leaned back on the strong limestone pillar for support. And then, as I was taking the picture, I hear her daughter Stella tell me that her mother wore her “most special” earrings that day; the earrings that she wore on her wedding day. “See, look … “ Stella said, as she reached through her mothers hair, to hold out the beautiful sparkling pieces for me to see.

It is these images that make me especially happy. Because when I look at them, I dont just see a still image, I hear voices … and stories. And that is what makes an image extra special for me. It’s not just a recycled pose … or a mere look. It might start out that way. But it then becomes a moment.

I hope that when you flip back through your “moments” after our time together, you enjoy this as well. After all, I feel as though it is these moments … these layers … that when laced together, help to tell a little piece of your story. And your family’s story is everything to me. ~ Kent Avenue Photography
