A Relaxed Santa Barbara Family Session

This Santa Barbara Family session brought on so many wonderful feelings. For as long as I can remember, my heart has felt pulled towards Santa Barbara. Have you ever felt something similar? It just feels right. I can not quite describe it but it’s pretty wonderful. Let’s just say my 10 year plan has a little bit of SB in it. I am not sure how this will play out … but in my heart of hearts, I know I am meant to spend more time here. 

So when I have the chance to pop back down, I do. And I stay for as long as I can. This particular visit to Santa Barbara with my mom had so many bright spots! Early morning runs together through town and up to the Mission … late afternoons wandering through Montecito’s open-air artisanal spaces and beautiful boutiques … and a chance encounter (on an evening sunset stroll) with a charming older couple, who led us up through the winding neighborhoods to a popup with the London Symphony perched high above the Pacific Ocean. We had afternoon drinks in the sunshine at Rosewood Miramar Beach, explored the gardens and enjoyed dinner under the stars at San Ysidro Ranch and (quite literally) bumped into, and chatted with, Jack Johnson as he was biking along the oceanside trail in flipflops with his surfboard tucked comfortably under his arm (I would know those kind eyes anywhere). ;) 

It was a perfect visit. And it ended with this wonderful Santa Barbara Family session! 

It was so special. I loved learning more about them and hearing their stories so much! Little ones change so quickly .. relationships ebb and flow … careers may change … and your home-base may shift. Life can be complex. It is a wild ride, for sure. There can be bumps and bruises and then somehow …. those blissful bits where you slide into smooth sailing. And while many things are constantly in flux, the one thing I do know to be constant, is the incredible love you all have for your families. No matter what, that brilliant light burns bright. Not only that, but it is this light (this love) that carries us.

Thank you Petersons for allowing me to capture some of your light. Thank you for traveling all the way from San Diego, with three of the sweetest little ones in tow, to spend the afternoon with me. I mean, how did I get so lucky?! An incredible family in a place that holds such meaning to me. I had the best time talking (and laughing!) with you.
