A Windswept Marin Motherhood Session

This windswept Marin Motherhood session began in the valley and finished on the mountain top. 

After enjoying the warm sun in that magical olive grove, we hopped in the car and drove north through the hills, the city, and finally around Presidio Parkway and over the Golden Gate Bridge. We wound our way though Mill Valley’s charming cottages nestled at the base of Mt. Tam, through the dense towering redwoods, climbing to that spectacular 2500ft peak standing high above Marin County. 

Upon reaching the summit, we parked and enjoyed the most perfect picnic dinner (oversized sandwiches stuffed with fresh local ingredients) as we awaited sunset and our hike out to the ridge for our late afternoon photo session. Those jaw-dropping, expansive mountain/coastal views painted before us were enough to have us (almost) sit in silence as we ate. It was really and truly just beyond. 

As the sun dipped lower towards the horizon, we bundled up in cozy, textural layers preparing to hike the winding dirt path that carved its way through the tall golden grasses out to our spot. The water sparkled in the distance down below and the vast sky-scape before us was glorious in all its ombre-sunset tangerines and pale pinks. 

I was so excited for this time photographing my very dear friend and her beautiful daughter. This little munchkin so kindly and graciously gave up her sweet bedroom for me (for over two weeks!) while I was staying in California photographing families. 

Her mama is such a wonderful friend … in fact, one of my very first friends when I moved out west over 23 years ago. I love her so much. Getting to know her daughter over the years has been so much fun. She is so much like her. She is kind, and thoughtful, and generous … and spicy!
