ABOUT

Hi!

I'm Tara

owner of Kent Avenue Photography. I know we haven't met yet but I’m dreaming of your session already! You might think I'm kidding, but I'm not.

With a background in Design and over a decade of experience photographing hundreds of families, I typically photograph indoor/outdoor, natural light sessions, with the goal of capturing your family in the most dreamy, magical light. I shoot 100% film photography for it’s soft, airy tones and timeless quality.

I’ll tell you a secret. It’s a big one. The only thing we need is light and LOVE. And YOU. That’s it. Little ones, as you know, don’t stay little for all that long. I want you to remember ALL of it. Let’s document YOUR story. And let that love shine through.

There is no pressure for that ‘perfect' picture. Don't worry about fancy outfits, waiting for the perfect home, the kids behaving or everyone looking at the camera! Overrated. None of this matters. YOU matter.

My goal is to capture genuine, light and love-filled moments. The beauty is in the
"in-between". And it’s beyond what we could have staged. It will get pretty (real pretty), I promise!

Photographing families since 2012, Tara, a former designer, works to carefully craft a uniquely personalized experience for each individual client. Her editorial~inspired, storytelling approach is paired with purposeful preparation, an incredible attention to detail, and a desire to create artful images capturing relaxed, love-filled moments that speak to an elevated sense of the everyday.

THE BRAND ESSENCE

kent avenue

THE NAME

Home. That place where you step over the threshold and exhale. Every little niche, every hallway, every staircase has a story. Our house growing up on ‘Kent Avenue’ was chock full of them.

I grew up in a small suburb in the tiny state of Rhode Island. Everyone here seems to know each other ... or knows someone that knows someone. 75% of my entire family lived within (2) streets of one other ~ grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents. Even though my parents have since moved from my childhood home, I still drive by from time to time and it all comes back to me. A little white bungalow with black shutters that sat sweetly on the corner.

I remember our milkbox that sat outside the back door where the milkman would deliver our milk in glass bottles every Tuesday and Friday morning ... I remember our enclosed front porch that had the best seat in the house for watching thunderstorms ... I remember the lines strung in the backyard where my mom would hang our fresh linens to dry ... the white picket fence that kept us safe as we spent the afternoons playing out back ... the sweet antique brass mail slot that seemed almost like jewelry for that large Newport blue door ... the 1900s cast iron tub, where we slipped off to unwind and wash away the day ... and that staircase with two creaky stairs that were always such a giveaway when you were creeping up ( or down ;) ) them.

Home. Regardless of how perfect or imperfect you feel that it is, I am here to tell you it’s so (so) incredibly beautiful ~ because it’s served as the backdrop for your story. And that is EVERYTHING.

I miss that small town feel.
I crave it.

I love fresh air … The sound of crushed gravel under your feet on morning trail runs ... The quiet while watering the garden ... The feel of putting on a summer dress after a long run and a hot shower ... Fresh cut flowers in the kitchen ... The small-town feel of being on a first name basis with everyone in town ... The smell of warm pastries when you step out of bed in the morning ... Simplicity in all forms. I think simple is beautiful.

I long for the days where neighbors would pop over, let themselves in and say a casual hello ... days when you would leave the windows ajar and let the breeze sing with the curtains. I miss days when Sundays were for taking it slow ... I love linen and dutch doors and gardens with meandering gravel paths. I love light-filled  spaces and french oak anything. I love sunshine. And being barefoot. And the blissful sound of summer nights. I love the sound of children's laughter. The sparkle in their eyes. And the weight of their little bodies when they collapse into you. I love to see love. Really that is it. Love. It makes me so happy. If we peel back all layers…it is love and light that seem to create magic. I strive to capture this simplistic beauty with my photography.

I want to tell my client’s story; a story that will be passed down for generations. Your family. Your legacy. I find such incredible beauty in all of it. C'mon, let's document YOUR story!

I miss that small town feel. I crave it.
